DHF Grangevale convincingly collect the Frank Linehan Cup

Martin Harvey Solicitors 0 – 4 DHF Grangevale

Man of the Match: Diarmuid O’Neill

DHF Grangevale picked up yet another piece of silverware this season as they comfortably won the Frank Linehan Cup final in Turner’s Cross against fellow promoted side Martin Harvey Solicitors.

The game started fairly back and forth, but it was DHF Grangevale with the first big chance of the game twelve minutes in. Daniel Kelleher floated a lovely ball over the Martin Harvey Solicitors defence where Luke Dennehy got on the end of it and headed the ball at goal, but his header was well held by Ciaran Taylor.

DHF Grangevale slowly got a grip of the game and took the lead with twenty minutes gone. Diarmuid O’Neill managed to wriggle away from his man and snuck a header from the back post into the back of the net to give his side the lead.

The First Division winners had the momentum and doubled their lead twelve minutes later. A headed clearance was picked up on the right wing by Luke Dennehy. Dennehy spotted the run in behind from Corey Harris and played the frontman through on goal, with Harris tucking the ball in the far corner to double DHF Grangevale’s lead.

They weren’t done yet and found a third goal on the stroke of half time. The same partnership from the first goal prevailed again, with Diarmuid O’Neill getting on the end of a David Barrett corner and powering a header into the roof of the net to give his side a three goal lead going into the break.

The runaway leaders hit their stride again in the second half and found a fourth goal in the sixty second minute. An attempted long ball was intercepted in midfield by Daniel Kelleher, who slid the ball through to Corey Harris. Harris took a touch and smashed the ball high into the back of the net to confirm his side’s victory in the final.

Martin Harvey Solicitors did have chances to find a consolation goal, the closest of which came two minutes from time. DHF Grangevale were able to clear a cross, but only as far as Jake Hawkins twenty five yards out. Hawkins sent a low deflected effort towards goal, which forced a good low save from Jamie O’Sullivan to keep it out.

However Martin Harvey Solicitors’ efforts would be in vain as the full time whistle blew to confirm that DHF Grangevale would claim this year’s Frank Linehan Cup to add to a brilliant year for the soon to be Premier Division side. Congratulations to all involved at Dennehy’s Health and Fitness Grangevale.
