Jay Bazz Defeat Swift to Progress to the Mick Mooney Cup Final
Jay Bazz 2 – 0 Swift
Jay Bazz secured a deserved win over Swift in Crosshaven to earn themselves a spot in the Mick Mooney cup final against Healy O’Connor Solicitors, writes Donncha Noonan.
It was Jay Bazz who started the better of the two sides, and they took the lead with nine minutes gone. Darren Nugent raced down the left hand side and swung a low cross into the box. The cross was cleared, but only as far as David Dunlea at the edge of the box, who took a touch and guided a shot into the bottom right corner to give his side an early lead.
Jay Bazz were on top and were pushing for a second, and very nearly got it in the twenty ninth minute. David Dunlea worked well down the right hand side before fizzing a cross into the box to Darren Nugent, who threw his foot at it, but his shot was smothered by the keeper and defender and the ball rolled out for a corner. Jay Bazz continued to trouble the Swift backline for the remainder of the half and were able to contain the firepower that Swift have up front, but Jay Bazz themselves couldnt create another big chance and went into half time goal to the good.
Swift got a better hold of the game to begin the half, with the game becoming far more evenly matched. Due to this though, both teams really struggled to break the other down.
The first proper chance of the half went to Jay Bazz with twenty minutes to play. Jamie O’Driscoll worked well down the left before sending a low cross into the box to David Dunlea. Dunlea shifted it onto his left foot but saw his shot blocked up into the air. He took the rebound on the volley but his effort rolled narrowly wide of the far post.
It was Jay Bazz who once again came close two minutes later. A lovely slip ball played by Jamie O’Driscoll allowed David Dunlea to run at goal from a tight enough angle on the right hand side. Dunlea approached goal but had his shot smothered by Swift keeper William Murphy.
Jay Bazz finally found their second of the game with five minutes to play. Jamie O’Driscoll was bundled over in the box and the referee pointed to the spot with little hesitation. Sam Heffernan stepped up to take it and tucked the penalty away to put the game to bed.
And that was that, Jay Bazz ran out 2-0 winners over Swift and bagged themselves a trip to the Mick Mooney Cup Final where they’ll play fellow Premier Division outfit Healy O’Connor Solicitors next month.
