CBL Weekend Preview 8th -10th October 2021
IN the first division the top two meet for the first time at Mayfield Pk. on Saturday afternoon when leaders Lion’s Den entertain Daz Barbers. The Den surrendered their 100% unbeaten record last weekend when they lost two-nil to Suro Cars. Daz Barbers have made steady progress since losing by the odd goal in seven to Brew Boys on match day one. Arainn McGrath’s impressive charges have gone six unbeaten, winning five and drawing one . Both teams possess plenty of firepower up front with the Den averaging three per match while the Barbers fair fractionally better with twenty-three for in their opening seven outings. Sam Kelleher, Terence McSweeney and David Gaffney have turned in eye catching performances for the leaders while the experienced and former league winner Darren Hosford and Kieran Buckley are supplied by the in-form Jay Clow in the middle of the park for the Barbers.
On Sunday, unbeaten Brew Boys can close the gap on the top two by taking all three points at the Farm against Cork Hospitals. Trend Micro will be looking to move into the top six for the first time with victory over fourth place and the other unbeaten team in the division, Longboats who themselves have an opportunity to stay in contention with a fourth win to add to the three draws they’ve secured already. Co. Council meet Suro Cars at the Regional Pk. in what should be an entertaining contest between two teams who’ve shown improved form in recent weeks. Derrow Rovs. and Telus International have yet to win home and away in what is a tricky fixture for both teams. VIP Barbers have lost their opening seven fixtures and can do with a morale boosting win over an out of sorts Weigh Inn at Crosshaven.
In the premier division four of the five unbeaten teams are in action with second-placed Marlboro Trust taking on Healy O’Connor Solicitors, UCC Utd. locking horns with District 11 and champions Doolan’s Cow moving over to Mayfield Pk. to face Jason O’Neill Electrical.
The remaining shield quarter-final tie takes place at Mayfield Community School on Friday night. In the original fixture Harp Celtic led Jay Bazz 2-1 before the match was abandoned in injury time. The winners will play twice winners Satellite Taxis in the semi-final.
