Murphy stars as Carrigaline Celtic score three late goals to capture win

It was an enthralling Game of the Week to kick off the second half of the Cork Business League season, as three late goals secured CFA Carrigaline Celtic a crucial win over Cork County Council in their CBL Grandon’s Toyota Second Division clash in Ballincollig.
The first half began as a very cagey affair in the first twenty minutes, with both sides trying to get a grasp on the game. The breakthrough eventually came for Cork County Council, as a tidy finish from Daniel Brazil in the twenty-sixth minute kicked the game’s action off.
The goal seemed to have opened the game up, and it only took ten minutes for Cork County Council’s lead to evaporate, as Donncha McDonnell levelled things up with thirty-six minutes gone.
They were the two big moments of the first half as the teams went into the break level with a big second fourty-five to come.
The second half started just as tense as the first did, with the first big chance of the half going to Carrigaline Celtic sixty-three minutes into the match. Michael Daly flicked the ball down the left wing where John O’Brien had space to work a cross into the box. His delivery evaded the defenders and fell to Jack Goulding on the right hand side, who played the ball centrally where Patrick Brophy ran onto it and tried to guide the ball into the bottom left corner, but the shot crashed off the inside of the post and away.
It was becoming a very back-and-forth game, and that trend continued as Cork County Council had a great chance to retake the lead in the sixty-sixth minute. They won a free-kick about thirty yards out, with Daniel Brazil over it. He struck it sweetly as his rocket looked destined for the top right corner, but somehow Darragh Murphy was able to tip the ball away at full stretch.
After a series of corners for Cork County Council, they had a glorious chance from one that should’ve made things 2-1 in the seventy-third minute. After Darragh Murphy had to react late to keep out a direct corner, Daniel Brazil floated a ball towards the back post after a recycled corner, where the ball found the head of a wide open Kieran O’Regan, but he diverted his header over the bar from eight yards out.
They would be made to rue that miss as, with eighty-nine minutes gone, Carrigaline Celtic grabbed the lead. John O’Brien’s looped cross from the left wing caused havoc in the box, where Jack Goulding was able to nod it down to Ryan White. He danced through a few bodies in the box before aiming a low shot at goal which took a slight deflection before rolling past the keeper to give Carrigaline Celtic a late lead.
Things would only get better for the Herons as they doubled their advantage just a minute later. A superb long ball from White landed beyond the Cork County Council backline and bounced in front of the run of Jack Goulding, who lifted the ball first time over the onrushing keeper and into the back of the net.
Carrigaline Celtic put the icing on the cake in the sixth minute of additional time with their fourth goal of the afternoon. The ball was sprayed out wide to John O’Brien, who controlled it well and delivered it centrally to Jack Goulding. He shaped to shoot, but his effort was blocked into the path of Ryan White just inside the box, who smashed a shot into the roof of the net to cap off a brilliant Carrigaline Celtic performance.
And that was that as after an intense affair, CFA Carrigaline Celtic were able to pull away with three late goals to secure themselves three huge points in their CBL Grandon’s Toyota Second Division campaign.
