Cork Business League Oscar Traynor 2026/27 Entry & Management Update

The Oscar Traynor Inter-League Trophy has been a prominent fixture in Irish junior football since its inception in 1963 and it brings together representative teams from FAI-affiliated junior leagues across the country. The Cork Business League (CBL) is delighted to confirm its continued participation, entering a representative side for the 4th consecutive season.

The 2026/27 campaign will get underway in October 2026 with teams competing in their respective provincial qualifying tournaments. Successful teams will then advance to the national stage of the competition, which is scheduled to begin in January 2027. The CBL enters this year’s competition in a unique position, with its representative squad coming off the back of a full season, while many competing leagues will be at the beginning of theirs. How this difference in preparation and match fitness will affect the tournament remains an interesting prospect for the months ahead.

The CBL is also pleased to continue with the same core management team from last season. Leading the squad will be the experienced Dennehy’s Health & Fitness Grangevale coaching staff of Diarmuid O’Neill, John O’Connell, Robert Osborne and Aaron O’Sullivan who collectively bring a wealth of football knowledge and coaching expertise to the role.

Diarmuid O’Neill has developed an impressive coaching résumé over the past decade. His coaching journey began with Douglas Hall where he worked with Under-14 to Under-18 teams between 2009 and 2013. Since joining DHF Grangevale in 2017, he has played a key role in the club’s success in the Cork AUL, helping guide the team to three league championships, four cup triumphs and five promotions across more than 200 matches. His coaching experience also extends to schools football most notably leading MICC Dunmanway to the Munster Under-17 title in 2023. Committed to furthering his coaching education, Diarmuid has also obtained his UEFA C Licence. Alongside his coaching achievements, he has also enjoyed a long playing career with Grangevale, having first lined out for the club in 2008. Since 2017, he has formed a successful and enduring coaching partnership with John O’Connell.

Joining the management team as Goalkeeping Coach is Robert Osborne who will bring specialist goalkeeping expertise that will be a valuable asset to the representative squad throughout the campaign. He is the Goalkeeper Coach for the FAI Munster Schools Under 18 Squad, where he will also be part of an Interprovincial tournament for that at end of November in Abbotstown in Dublin.

Diarmuid had this to say after landing the role again: “Our main aims this year are to maximise the excellent player pool in the league and achieve competitive results. We hope to control anything we can in preparation that’s possible and give the team the best opportunity for success. A competitive win for the league is a goal of the management, returning squad members and committee. A number of excellent players are in the league this season that are quite unknown and are more than capable of playing the best junior sides in the province. We will look to enjoy the entire process once again as the squad evolves over the coming weeks and months.
