CBL GOTW: DCT FC second half surge secures win over Pfizer
DCT FC 3 – 0 Pfizer FC
Man of the Match: Eoin Field
It was a top end clash in the CBL Grandon’s Toyota Second Division on Sunday as DCT FC took on Pfizer FC in Crosshaven. After a tense first half, DCT pulled away in the second to come away 3-0 victors.
It was DCT who got off to a fast start and came close three minutes in. Dean O’Sullivan picked up the ball in midfield and fired it into the feet of Luke Bermingham. He turns and fires from close range but it’s straight down the throat of Stephen Organ.
There was early drama in the tenth minute, to the detriment of Pfizer. Referee Joe Harris showed a straight red card to Anshul Nama, leaving Pfizer down to just ten men.
After a lengthy stoppage due to a kit clash being sorted, the game went back underway and DCT had another big chance to take the lead in the twenty-sixth minute. Eoin Field whipped in a corner which found the head of Zigunovs. He flicked the ball goalwards, but Organ was once again equal to it.
That was the last notable action of the half as a tightly contested affair produced no goals in the first period.
That changed four minutes into the second half, and the goal went the way of DCT. Luke Bermingham found himself in a great position in the box, but was tripped from behind, winning a penalty. Robbie Burke stepped up to take it, and tucked the ball into the bottom left corner to give his side a vital lead.
Their day got even better in the fifty-ninth minute. Zigunovs spread the ball out to Eoin Field in space on the left hand side. He took it on his left foot and curled an audacious effort looping over the keeper and into the top right corner. One I’m sure he would claim was definitely a shot, not a cross.
DCT capped the performance off with a third in the seventieth minute. A corner into the box caused havoc in the area, with it eventually being looped up into the air by Dean O’Sullivan. It landed towards Jay Kelly, who scrapped for the ball and managed to poke it into the back of the net.
There was a sour note at the end of the game for DCT as they were put down to ten men for the last ten minutes, as Michael Mitchell was given his marching orders. Despite that though, They were able to hold onto their clean sheet and secure a vital win.
