Two Late Goals Send the MSL Through After Titanic Oscar Traynor Clash with the CBL

Cork Business League 2 – 4 Munster Senior League

Man of the Match: Stephen Kennedy Osubor (MSL)

It was an all timer of a matchup in the Oscar Traynor Munster Semi Final as the Munster Senior League pulled away late on to advance to the Munster Final in a cracking tie against the Cork Business League in Mayfield United, writes Donncha Noonan

The first blow came after twenty four minutes and it went the way of the CBL. A counter attack led to a slip ball in behind releasing Aaron O’Sullivan down the right channel. He was tripped over in the box while heading to the byline and earned his side a penalty. Billy Tabb stepped up to take it and tucked it into the top right corner to give the CBL the lead.

That lead didn’t last too long though as the MSL levelled things up four minutes later. Kalem Cashman trudged down the line and got to the byline before pulling the ball back across the box. Ruben Sarasa got a touch on it but it fell to Stephen Kennedy Osubor who poked the ball home to tie the match up.

That wasn’t it for the half though as the CBL retook the lead on the stroke of half time. They defended a set piece well before Shane Keating broke away down the right hand side. He slid a ball through for Billy Tabb to chase, and the frontman took his chance and slotted the ball past keeper Cian O’Connor to give his side the advantage going into the break.

And that was that for the first half as an enticing encounter resulted in the CBL going into the half one goal to the good.

The MSL came out firing in the second half, and they were able to claw back level in the seventy first minute. A well worked move led to Jack Clarke taking aim from outside the right side of the box, and Miguel Barcena Gomez was equal to it. However, he was only able to parry it and Kennedy latched onto the rebound and turned it home to once again tie up the game.

It kept that way until late on, when the MSL struck again with six minutes to go. An effort from the MSL in the box struck the hand of Aaron West, and the referee pointed to the spot with no hesitation. It was Jordan Delurey who stepped up to take, and he dispatched his penalty to give the MSL the lead.

They weren’t done there though, as they buried the game two minutes later. Kalem Cashman fought his way to the byline over at the left hand side and pulled the ball across to Stephen Kennedy who tapped the ball home to complete his hat trick and end the game.

So that was all she wrote for this one as a tight tussle was decided by two late goals for the MSL as they snatched the victory over a really good CBL side who put it up to them for the whale ninety. The MSL will progress into the Oscar Traynor Munster final.
