CBL GOTW: Dripsey Celtic comeback caps off a CBL classic

Cork County Council 3 – 5 TWI Dripsey Celtic

Man of the Match: Conor Twomey

An enthralling occasion in the Ballincollig Regional Park was decided by a brilliant comeback from The Weigh Inn Dripsey Celtic to capture them all three points over Cork County Council in their CBL Dennehy’s Health & Fitness First Division clash.

It was a lightning start to the match as Cork County Council took the lead after just eight minutes. A cross in from Evan Mohally went all the way through to Emmanuel Mbudinma, who laid it to the penalty spot where Robert Susek powered it home to give his side an early lead.

That lead didn’t last too long though as Dripsey Celtic fired back in the sixteenth minute. Ryan Twomey fought hard at the edge of the box, where he was able to nod the ball to Jamie Torpey, with the striker manipulating the ball brilliantly before sending a low shot past the keeper to level the game.

Cork County Council retook the lead five minutes later. Susek was able to get on the end of an inswinging free kick and nod the ball past the onrushing keeper to grab his second of the day.

They were able to double their lead in the twenty fifth minute. Ping pong around the left side of the box meant a loose ball broke to Grzegorz Sienicki. The midfielder was able to curl the ball into the far bottom right corner to give his side a comfortable position.

That was the last action of a trilling first half which gave Cork County Council a 3-1 lead going into half time.

Dripsey Celtic started the second half far better than they did in the first half and nabbed a goal back after an hour. A long ball forward from Ryan Twomey found the head of the running Conor Twomey, who looped a header over the keeper to get his side back in the game.

Dripsey Celtic kept their momentum going and were able to level the game in the seventy first minute. A Ryan Twomey free kick was delightfully delivered into the box, where it was brilliantly headed into the top right corner by Ciaran Pittorino to equalise for his side.

It took until the second last minute of normal time for the lead to be taken, and it was Dripsey Celtic who got it. A ball down the left hand side was latched onto by Jamie Torpey. The frontman pulled the ball across goal where Cormac Keane was on hand to bundle it home and complete the comeback.

They werent quite done there though as they grabbed a fifth deep into injury time. A breaking ball fell to Conor Twomey in midfield, who took a shot from the halfway line and his effort looped over the keeper and into the back of the net to cap off a five star performance from Dripsey Celtic.

That was that from this encounter as a second half fightback proved successful as they made their way from 3-1 down to come back and win 5-3 and secure three crucial points in their bid to stay in the CBL Dennehy’s Health & Fitness First Division.
