CBL GOTW: Dwyer Hat-trick Hands Longboats the Points

Longboats 3 – 2 Jay Bazz

Garry McCarthy Trophies Man of the Match: Stephen Dwyer

It was a thrilling encounter in the CBL Grandon’s Toyota Premier Division as Longboats striker Stephen Dwyer netted three second half goals to secure three points for his side in Crosshaven.

It was a fairly uneventful first half with both sides struggling to create an opening, but the best chance went to Longboats on the stroke of half time. Kevin Dullea picked up the ball down the left hand side and swung an inviting ball into the area. The ball was half cleared by Jay Bazz and it fell to Stephen Dwyer in the box, but his goalbound shot was deflected wide by a brilliant block from Adam O’Flynn.

It was the second half where the game really took off as Longboats opened the scoring in the fifty ninth minute. Longboats won it high up the pitch with Davie Scott then bursting down the right channel. Scott squared it to Stephen Dwyer who was on hand to tuck it away to give his side the lead.

Jay Bazz kicked on after conceding and managed to draw back level in the seventy fifth minute. A well developed play led to Brandon Downey picking the ball up centrally and driving at the Longboats defence, before playing it out left to Corey Ryan. Ryan drove towards goal and side footed it past the keeper and into the far corner to grab an equaliser.

Despite the momentum that came from their equaliser, it was Jay Bazz’s opponents who retook the lead four minutes later. A long throw by Longboats landed at the feet of Dwyer in the box, who managed to turn and rifle a shot into the top right corner to grab his second of the game.

The frontman wasn’t done there as he netted his hat trick in the first minute of extra time. A corner swung towards the back post was nodded across by Liam Cashman, which Dwyer got on the end of to score his third of the match.

Jay Bazz did manage to get a goal back a minute later. A well taken free kick by Aaron Kemp found the head of Jamie O’Driscoll who guided a brilliant header into the top right corner to net a consolation goal for Jay Bazz.

That was that for the match as an on form Longboats side managed to fend off a fightback from Jay Bazz to grab all three points, led by a hat trick from striker Stephen Dwyer.
