Stryker Commits to 2 New CBL Clubs – Stryker Macroom & Stryker Neurovascular!
The Cork facilities are central to Stryker’s operations, with it’s workforce here known for its expertise in engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance which plays a crucial role in driving Stryker’s mission to improve healthcare outcomes worldwide. It is a great sign of the strength of the organisation to have 2 separate CBL clubs enter the league this season.
In Stryker Neurovascular, based in Model Farm Road, these players work in a manufacturing environment with multiple different shifts across many various roles. Club Secretary Ian Farrell speaks highly of the CBL “Joining the CBL has allowed us to get together outside of the work environment to do something we all enjoy and work towards building a cross functional team from our great Stryker NV personal. Our aim for the year is develop a regular squad with a strong mix of players, make it sustainable to carry into the next few seasons. Saying all that the main goal this year is to win the league undefeated.”
Starting out also in the 2nd Division is their Macroom based team – playing out of Ballincollig Regional Park. Jack Walsh, Chairman of the club tells us that “What started out as a 5-a-side amongst ourselves on a Friday night, has now become Stryker Macroom FC heading into the CBL. After seeing a poster on Facebook to enter the league we thought it would be a good idea to try change the dynamic of football within Macroom to take a step up from the Astro turf to play competitive football week in week out. Starting off as a fresh team our aims for the season are to be as competitive as possible and play a style of football that can go potentially beyond our expectations to achieve success in Division 2 and have a run in the cup. Edward Byrne, a former Riverstown player, has been a big factor in our training sessions as he has stepped into coaching us while we are on the hunt for a coach. His versatile style of play in midfield with a sweet left foot is my he’s up there as been one of our strongest players and also setting an example for the rest of the club. Our captain for the season is a man named Seán Cassidy. He is a strong, tall centre back who can put his head on anything. His leadership skills and commitment are the reasons why we selected him as captain. Our squad isn’t the biggest but with the group of players we’ve got and the commitment they have shown me so far, we are ready to take on the CBL and promote football within Stryker Macroom FC.”
