Transphobia in Irish Sport: Making Our Clubs More Diverse and Inclusive

Sporting Pride is an independent body that works with LGBTQ+ Sports Clubs,  National Governing Bodies (NGB), Local Sports Partnerships (LSP), and government departments to promote LGBTQ+ opportunities in SportSporting Pride, the national LGBTQ+ sports organisation, in association with the FAI, would like to invite you to Marino College, Dublin 9 on Saturday 22nd February from 12:00-14:00 to participate in a workshop entitled “Transphobia in Irish Sport: Making our Clubs more Diverse and Inclusive”

Taking place as part of #FootballvHomophobia month, the event will include two sessions dealing with the following topics, which are very relevant for football clubs around the country, especially among young people:

  1. Presentation from the Transgender Equality Network of Ireland (TENI) on terminology, the lived experience of being trans in Ireland and how sports clubs can be a good trans ally; and
  2. Panel Discussion, featuring Matt Kennedy (Transgender Boxer), Andy Martin (TranSports), Gordon Grehan (TENI) and Helen McHugh (Sport Ireland -Diversity, Inclusion & Safeguarding Manager) and MC’d by Sporting Pride committee member, transgender activist and cyclist, Philippa Ryder.
